The Community Foundation of Huntsville/Madison County was recently selected to manage a fund for Greengate School. According to Community Foundation Board Chairman Dr. James Gilbert, “We are honored to be of assistance to Greengate School in this way. We applaud the head of the Greengate School, Trudy Odle, and their Board of Directors, chaired by Halina Hale, for managing, with careful planning and financially sound stewardship, to set aside funds for a rainy day.”
The Greengate School Board of Directors has chosen the Community Foundation of Huntsville to manage the growth of an endowment fund for our school. Greengate has been fortunate to be able to save a portion of the money received from generous individual and corporate donors over the years. It is our hope to build an endowment that will allow us to develop additional programs and to provide financial assistance to students who would not otherwise be able to attend Greengate. Affiliating with the Community Foundation provides a way for Greengate to continue to strengthen our collaboration with the community, to help communicate our mission, and to fulfill our vision of continuing to be a premier resource for dyslexia services in our region for students, families, and educators for decades to come.
Greengate School is an independent, accredited school that was founded a decade ago to provide intensive, research-based intervention for bright students with dyslexia, and in the ensuing years, has become a respected resource to the region. Besides our day school program for grades Pre-K to 8th, we provide a summer reading camp and outreach tutors to serve a broader base of students. Greengate hosts regular information services for the public in the region, as well as ongoing teacher training and outreach to schools.
Lynne Berry, Executive Director of the Community Foundation, remarked, “Greengate School will receive several benefits from this investment with the Community Foundation. Funds that we manage for nonprofits are listed on our printed materials, on our website, and are mentioned in our presentations. Our management fees are very competitive and there will be educational and promotional opportunities to grow the fund. Most importantly, a fund increases the stability of a nonprofit and strengthens the effectiveness of their strategic planning. By delegating the administrative tasks of managing funds to the Community Foundation, nonprofits are free to focus more energy on fundraising and developing donor relationships. We congratulate Greengate School on their business acumen and professionalism and look forward to working with them to increase this asset.”
