Mark C. Smith Concert Hall Fund Established at Community Foundation

The Linda and Mark Smith Family Foundation has established a designated fund at the Community Foundation for the continual maintenance and upkeep of the Mark C. Smith Concert Hall at the Von Braun Center.

Wayne Bonner, Chairman of the Von Braun Center Board of Directors, commented, “Thanks to a generous gift from the Linda and Mark Smith Family Foundation, the Concert Hall at the Von Braun Center has been transformed, with a new glass facade entrance, a center aisle, an enlarged and open lounge area, elevator access to the balcony level, and a lobby overlooking Big Spring Park.  Now, because of Linda Smith’s careful forethought, the Von Braun Center will be able to insure that the transformation retains its fresh appearance for many years to come.  Linda and the Smith family have gone above and beyond the usual parameters of a major gift by providing this additional stability and we are very grateful.”

Dr. James Gilbert, chairman of the board of directors of the Community Foundation, added, “The Smith family has set a wonderful example of philanthropy in our community.  They have moved beyond pursuing private interests by making public needs their personal concern.  They have invested in a facility that welcomes residents and visitors alike, providing entertainment for individuals and revenue for the city of Huntsville.”

“The Community Foundation is very happy to provide this service for the Von Braun Center.   Community foundations can hold funds for government entities that do not have a separate non-profit foundation. We invest those funds so that they grow over time and they are always available for the stated purpose – in this case, the continual maintenance and upkeep of the Mark C. Smith Concert Hall.  We are delighted to be associated with the Smith family in this way and to be able to support the Von Braun Center and its beautiful and functional updating of the concert hall.”
